Why Try Pilates?

When I tell people I own a Pilates studio in Denver, they often say, "Pilates is like yoga with machines, right? What would it help me with?"

It's such a big question! My response varies depending on the person and the setting, but it always includes some variation of the following:

Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. He had many influences, including the ancient practice of yoga, gymnastics, watching animals in nature, and trying to help rehabilitate his various clients' injuries. These influences are part of what make Pilates so unique, and its machines—the Pilates reformer, Pilates chair, and Pilates tower are the most common pieces—give it an even wider range of possible exercises. Depending on your needs, the equipment can be used to make the workout more challenging or reduce the load of gravity to help rehabilitate an injury.

Pilates is also very adaptive! Some of my clients are elite athletes trying to train specific muscles for their sport, others are elderly practitioners maintaining muscle mass and honing their balance, and still others are weekend athletes rehabilitating an injury or just getting into better shape!

Pilates really can address all these types of people, so give us a call and we'll help you figure out which class or private Pilates session is right for you!
